The {{INCLUDE: (*file path*) }}
command will place the specified file in to your document assembling any included files and original text into a single PDF.
How do you use it?
You can drag the file icon from a Finder window into your primary Highland document where you’d like to place the Include command, and Highland will format the command for you.
Or you can go to File > Include… in the menu bar, and select the file you want to include.
You can also add elements before or after included files. Type additional text, and the included file will connect directly to it. Add a manual page break (===) to separate different included files.
If your primary file is .highland format, Highland will add the included file to the document assets, always keeping them available. (See Assets Sidebar).
Note: Highland will ignore the Include command within an included file.
Why should you use it?
Highland treats the included file as if it was written within the primary document. This allows you to save chapters, scenes, sequences, etc. as individual documents, then merge them together.
It’s a way of breaking down larger writing projects into smaller, easier to focus on chunks. Then, you assemble them into a single document once all the pieces are in place.
