Highland offers writers a tool to check their work-in-progress for gender parity in characters and dialogue.
Created in collaboration with screenwriter Christina Hodson (you can read the full story here), you can find the tool under Tools > Gender Analysis.
There you’ll see a list of all the speaking roles in your script, and you can assign a gender to each. Highland will give you breakdowns based on number of characters, amount of lines, and amount of spoken words.
There’s also a Bechdel-test influenced measurement of how many scenes your screenplay has with two or more female characters interacting.
The tool provides a way for writers to zoom out and see the big picture about the makeup of who they’re putting on the page, and who could wind up represented on screen.
